CBC

Through this pilot, we will be organising joint lessons for German and Dutch students – both online and in person – as part of the standard curriculum. To this end, shared digital learning environments will be created and AI applications, particularly translation tools, will be tested across three study programmes: Media Design, Metal and Technological Industry, and Agroculture. Tools for this already exist, such as Microsoft Translator for Education, but there is little to no experience of how this works in practice within education. These tools are increasingly being used at international conferences, but school-based education is a very different situation. The question is whether AI makes it possible to overcome language barriers in binational education in practice, and what pedagogical added value binational education offers in terms of Euregional competences and various subject-specific topics. If the methods in these pilot projects prove their worth, the whole initiative can be rolled out to other courses at a later date. The objective is to strengthen and consolidate cooperation between vocational education institutions in the border region, so that students from various programmes can actively explore the opportunities within the Euregio and develop their Euregional competences and identity, thereby improving their access to the Euregional labour market.
The innovative aspect of this project is that students from Germany and the Netherlands actually attend classes together as part of their regular curriculum, whilst live translation tools are used and tested.
