In the Smart Solution Labs, students from different disciplines and
\nuniversities work together in an 8-week R&D sprint on real current tasks
\nfrom companies in the region and develop innovative inspirations and solutions.
\nTasks include optimising or automating processes, analysing markets in their
\nown or neighbouring countries, or reusing waste products in a circular economy.
\nThe R&D Sprint has a deliberately short duration of 8 weeks in order to
\nprovide companies with a short but intensive external stimulus. Students are
\ngiven the opportunity to generate added value for the companies and at the same
\ntime gain valuable practical experience in an interdisciplinary and
\ninternational team. They also gain an insight into the innovative work of
\ncompanies in the region, which should encourage them to consider this border
\nregion as a future labour market.<\/p>\n
Together with the Saxion Hogeschool, FH Münster and Westfälische
\nHochschule, the Wirtschaftsförderungsgesellschaft für den Kreis Borken (WFG)
\nand the Verenigde Maakindustrie Oost (VMO) want to open the doors to
\ncross-border knowledge transfer in the EUREGIO.
\nStudents and companies are given the opportunity to look beyond their own
\nhorizons. They learn more about how innovations are developed in the respective
\nneighbouring country and at the same time lose their fear of the labour market.
\nIn addition, small and medium-sized enterprises that do not have sufficient
\nresources of their own for R&D projects receive valuable support in
\nrealising their projects.<\/p>\n
By summer 2025, 80 students and 22 companies had already
\nactively participated in SSL. The tasks demonstrate the wide range of topics covered, including market expansion strategies, technical challenges, and various application possibilities with the aim of increased
\nautomation. Sustainability also plays an important role.<\/p>\n
