Together, we work on climate adaptation and biodiversity. The project is<br \/>\nsupported by the Interreg VI program Deutschland-Nederland and builds upon the groundwork,<br \/>\nnetwork, and knowledge laid by the Green Blue Rhine Alliance (GBRA). We work on<br \/>\nthis project from 2023 to 2026.<\/p>\n<p>This new Interreg project operates through three work packages, all<br \/>\naimed at establishing a better relationship. between humans and nature in the<br \/>\nRhine border area:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Healthy Rhine<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Healthy Rhine work package contributes to ensuring the well-being<br \/>\nof both &nbsp;humans and wildlife inhabiting<br \/>\nthe Rhine. It aims to reduce issues such as plastic pollution and damage to<br \/>\nfish, caused by ships, with the ultimate goal of restoringmigratory fish<br \/>\npopulations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Green Rhine<\/strong> <br \/>\nThe Green Rhine work packageencompasses projects that contribute to<br \/>\nclimate adaptation and biodiversity in and alongside the Rhine. Partners<br \/>\nstimulate and develop river forests, an ecological corridor between Niederrhein<br \/>\nand Rijnstrangen, and &#8216;living dikes&#8217; with higher biodiversity.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Living Rhine<\/strong> <br \/>\nThe Living Rhine work package focuses on activities that establish a<br \/>\ntangible connection between the Rhine, nature, and people. Project partners<br \/>\nachieve this by involving governments, civil organizations, economic sectors,<br \/>\nresidents, volunteers, and students in solving the Rhine&#8217;s challenges through<br \/>\nawarenes campaigns, communication, education, and participation.<\/p>\n<p>The partners are eager to share the progress and results of this<br \/>\nproject with everyone, thus bringing the Rhine to life. This dissemination includes<br \/>\nexhibitions in museums such as De Bastei in Nijmegen and Schloss Benrath in<br \/>\nD&uuml;sseldorf, an interactive online 3D visitor center, social media engagement,<br \/>\nand the website www.derijnverbindt.nl (in Dutch<br \/>\nand German). <\/p>\n<p><strong>Future Strategy and Collaborative Covenant<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>Even after the conclusion of this project, our partners are committed<br \/>\nto working towards a future with a healthy, green, and living Rhine for humans,<br \/>\nanimals, and plants in the border region. Based on the knowledge gained in this<br \/>\nproject, they will develop a future strategy outlining how a healthy, green,<br \/>\nand living Rhine can be achieved and who should be involved. The partners<br \/>\nwarmly invite other organizations and groups interested in contributing to sign<br \/>\nthe collaborative covenant of the Green Blue Rhine Alliance. This will create a<br \/>\ngenuine movement for a healthy, green, and living Rhine.<\/p>\n<p><em>The ten project partners are: ARK Rewilding Netherlands, Biologische<br \/>\nStation im Kreis Wesel e.V., Stichting De Bastei, Stiftung Schloss und Park<br \/>\nBenrath, NABU-Naturschutzstation Niederrhein e.V., Naturschutzzentrum im Kreis<br \/>\nKleve e.V., Ravon, Rheinischer Fischereiverband von 1880 e.V., Rijkswaterstaat<br \/>\nOost Nederland, Sportvisserij Nederland.
