The expansion of renewable energies is a supporting pillar of the energy transition. The contribution of renewable energies to the global energy supply is growing. In addition to political, legal and economic factors, the acceptance of the population in particular influences sustainability efforts. These are directly dependent on support and commitment of the population. The goal of the SAVE project was the cross-border exchange and transfer of knowledge regarding the acceptance of energy issues. In this context, the eight project partners engaged in an intensive dialogue with each other, but also with other municipalities, companies and network and knowledge institutions about the success factors for stimulating energy projects and innovations. The target groups of the project were municipalities, citizens, and companies, who were first asked about their “status quo” in a questionnaire survey. From the findings of the workshops, interviews and surveys, target group-specific measures were derived and implemented in the context of awareness-raising, participation, and training. Special attention was also to the differences between Germany and the Netherlands in the successful involvement of stakeholders in the energy transition and the opportunities to learn from each other.
